Now I'm really excited! I've been in touch with Island Harvest, who wants to partner with me for the Valentine's Day fundraiser I've had in mind. I plan to make Island Harvest fundraisers a regular thing for Marneycakes.
The hunger problem on Long Island is already huge, and people tend to forget about supporting food pantries after the holidays are over. So, I'm thinking a "share the love on Valentine's Day" theme is a good thing. People are already volunteering to help, and am working on the venue...have a great one in mind and they seem receptive...more on that as things develop. I'm also speaking to other dessert vendors and speciality retailers to donate items for a raffle!
There are already hundreds of thousands going hungry on Long Island, believe it or not. And with the economy tanking and foreclosures increasing, this is only going to get uglier over the next few months. It's bad enough that so many are going hungry and need to go to food pantries, but it's even worse that they're being turned away. That should never happen.
If you're interested in volunteering at the fundraiser, or in making a donation, let me know.
