More wedding cakes, as promised.

O.k., as promised, now that the Valentine's rush is done, I'm uploading some more images of my wedding (and birthday) work.

This week, I'm very excited to be meeting with a wedding and special event planner, and two of her brides. I'm meeting with Kathy Gordon of Aleximani Events (www.aleximanievents.com) in Copiague, and I'll be bringing samples for Kathy and the girls to enjoy.

Next up, here's one of those nice things that makes what I do such a joy!

Check out this glowing review that was given to me by Jeff Mitchel of J. Mitchel Photography (www.jmitchelphotography.net):

"Marney, I just want to say, thank you! I have had a chance to try a few of your creations now, and each time I am just blown away by home much of a difference honest ingredients, truly fresh product and careful craftsmanship make. From presentation to texture and finally...the amazing taste, you create something that just blows away my notion of cake. I wish I knew about you when I was getting married!"

Wow! Could you ask for a more solid endorsement?

I also got this really fabulous endorsement (and, most thoughtfully, even a snapshot) from a client for some of last week's work:

"Hey Marney! I was just going to send you a thank you e-mail! The cake was phenomenal! We were all stuffed from dinner but everyone had to have more than one piece it was delicious! Thank you so much for all your help! I know it was short notice and I want to thank you for helping us out! It was amazing :) You will definitely be hearing from us again (We've been racking our brains to think of a reason for a cake!) Thank you again! - Megan" This client's mom and mom's boyfriend have the same birthday, around Valentine's Day. At the end of August, her sister and brother-in-law have the same birthday. Megan is availing herself of our Celebration Concierge Service, so she'll be hearing from me in mid-August to firm up the details of her order, then the cake will be delivered when she needs it!

It's stuff like this sweet and thoughtful note that can not only make my day, but also make my week! I love my clients...they're the best! (By the way, happy birthday, "Mom" and Andy, and many more!)

The exceedingly kind and generous owner of the Artrageous clay painting studio in Rockville Centre ( www.artrageousrvc.com), Karen Rifai, has me at her shop most Friday nights for the BYOB night. It's mostly women my age, enjoying a leisurely evening with one of their girlfriends, sharing a bottle of wine and having a good ol' time! I serve samples, and usually get a handful of orders as a result. (That's how Gigi and Tom found me for their wedding cake! Gigi sampled two of my cakes, and had to have a Marneycake for her wedding day.) I also do a drawing among the patrons for a complimentary cake that serves 12 people. This week's Artrageous drawing cake is pictured above. A sweet and generous woman named Barbara opted to have her complimentary cake made for her niece Delia's 17th birthday. This isn't the first time this has happened, either. Peoples' generosity and thoughtfulness are heartwarming. (By the way, the design on the sides of Delia's cake is something called Cornelli lace, which happens to be one of my favorite things to pipe onto a cake.

I need some sleep, after all the fun I've had making cakes this past week!

The blue and yellow wedding cake would be great for a Spring wedding...reminds me of a picnic basket...very nice.

Thank you, TJ! It was for a summer beach-theme wedding in the Hamptons, but would play equally well for a spring wedding. That was a fun planning process...the bride lives in Los Angeles, and all our communication was by phone and email. I even scanned and emailed my sketches to her, and she chose that design. The cool thing was, when she saw the cake, she said, "It looks exactly like the drawing!"

It feels good to hear that I've given a client exactly what they wanted. :)
