A very sweet and gracious woman contacted me today to inquire about a wedding cake. Long story short, she's planning a complex wedding, but really wants to have something intimate, simple and professional in her back yard. My advice to her was this: have the wedding you want. It's all about you and your hubby on your wedding day.
I was once roped into having a huge wedding that I wanted no part of. And it was a miserable, stressful day.
Know what? This is supposed to be your day of a lifetime. Showing respect for the wishes of others who have their particular vision for your wedding is one thing - completely bowing to their vision of your wedding day is another (it's only a problem if it's in direct conflict with your vision of your wedding day, of course - there are plenty of people who have no strong preferences one way or the other).
Do whatever you need to do to focus your wedding day on the love you share with your Other Half. Anything that doesn't add to that for the two of you, and adds stress or anxiety, needs to be reconsidered.
This is your one big day formally starting your marriage; it's crucial to start it on a positive note.
That's my two cents' worth on weddings run amok. Just had to get it off my chest.
